Panthers down Calera in home opener

Just a day after falling to Shelby County in the first loss of the season, the Pelham Panthers boys’ basketball team got back in the win column with an 81-71 win Friday over the Calera Eagles in the home opener.

Sophomore Xavier Lacey led the Panthers with a game-high 28 points, including a 14-of-18 performance from the field and an alley-oop dunk that brought the crowd to its feet.

Tony Williams was next for the Panthers, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Tyler Minyard had nine points and six rebounds, Trent Erwin had eight points and seven rebounds and Graham Reilly had six points and eight assists.

Deondre Haynes was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 26 points, while Blayne Sumrall also finished with double digits with 20 points.
